And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth. For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
This Jesus, delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men. The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. The steps of a man are established by the Lord , when he delights in his way;.
Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made. For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil. Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God.
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away. Proverbs , 12 NIV. When tragedy befalls us, we often feel unjustly burdened. We see only the wrongs done to us and often overlook our own failings. Not all trouble is because of an error by our part but sometimes there are lessons within the trial that God is trying to teach us.
There is always a lesson that to be learned. I have been through a trial where I believed that I really did nothing to deserve the hardship. The wrongs that were done hurt me deeply and the isolation afterward was equally as hard. When I was in my season of waiting to see where I should go next, God revealed to me what my sin had been.
It was not a blatant sin. It was the sin of pride. My pride was not boastful but subtle. God used the trial to help me rid myself of pride because pride always stands between God and us. He used the trial to discipline me and change me. Is not this what parents do to their children?
When children are doing something that is detrimental to self or character, parents remove them from the situation and discipline them. The discipline is not to smite the offending child. The discipline is to help them grow into the person that they need to be. God uses trials to help us grow into the person that we ought to be. We must become more like Christ. Like a child, I did have my times of tantrum. I did feel that my treatment was unjust. I realized that the trial not only helped to change my heart to be more like Christ, but it set me on a new path.
Nothing is by happenstance. God has a plan for each of us. He has redirected my life for his purpose. I do not know the purpose. I do know that it is to bring him glory. If you do find yourself in the midst of a trial, pray about it and ask God to show you what he is trying to teach you. We have to realize that we will never be perfect. As Christians, we spend our entire lives on transforming into becoming more like Christ. He disciplines those that he loves.
He loves you. Father God, forgive me for the prideful heart that I still am trying to change. I can never do it on my own. Help me rid myself of this sin and all sin so that I may bring you glory.
Father, I lift up those who are in a trial to see your purpose in changing them into a new creation that reflects the glory and grace of your Son. Transform us, Father. Help us to be kingdom workers. It is all for you, Father. We praise you and honor you.
Glory is thine. These verses fill me with gratitude. It is a deep gratitude for my God that allows me to have ears that heard and eyes that saw. God also blessed me with a heart that has not calloused through the years. I am humbled that God deemed me worthy to me his child. I know that having eyes that see, ears that hear and a heart that accepts Jesus is the greatest blessing of my life. I am also amazed to look back at how he opened my ears and eyes. I am grateful for how he made my heart an accepting heart and not a hardened, skeptical heart.
God used and continues to use godly people to influence my walk with Jesus. Remembering all of the saints who influenced my spiritual walk and growth is a great blessing for me. God blessed me with an incredibly loving mother. She was a beautiful example of kindness that was a reflection of Christ. She did her best to teach us what she could about God and prayer. She planted the seed of faith in her children. One of the most impactful lessons she taught of faith in God came during her final days on earth.
I have had many godly people that chose to cultivate that seed of faith in me. There were people that broadened my understanding of the Gospel and taught me so much about my Lord. When I was in error of the truth, they gently righted my steps. They cultivated the seeds of faith. It is always good to know a few Latin phrases that you can use to season your conversations. “Carpe diem” = “Seize the day.” Use this phrase when you’ve been diagnosed with a terminal disease. You aren’t going to waste time meaninglessly, so you seize the day. “Veni, vidi, vici” = “I came, I saw, I conquered.” Use this phrase when you are facing any huge obstacle – cancer.
