Our family are Elvis fans so the occasional pilgrimage to Graceland is on the list. The prices have really gone up since our last visit. That is why I gave 4 stars. The good, is seeing the Presley home as a time capsule. My favorite rooms are the front living room, the parents bedroom and bathroom.
I would have loved to see pictures of the rest of the house before the 70's re-do. The trophy room is an impressive display of awards by Elvis while he was alive. Almost more impressive is the awards in the racquetball court from after his death. The meditation garden allows guests to pay their respects to Elvis and his parents. For improvement, I would like the option of a live and personal tour guide instead of the iPad and headphones. All the employees at the mansion and in the gift shops were pleasant and helpful.
They truly seemed to love their job. That makes for a great atmosphere. We will be back. I admit, I am not a huge Elvis fan. I grew up watching him, sure, but he has never been a huge favorite of mine. However, we were recently in Memphis and decided that we just had to visit this landmark on out trip. Perhaps the worst part of the visit was the price. There were 5 of us, and holy cow is it pricey! The mansion and grounds are not hugely impressive, but it is kind of fun to hear the music playing everywhere.
It was a 30 minute wait to get in, which wasn't great but not the end of the world. It is an interesting place to visit, but certainly not someplace I would go back to. Be prepared to spend some serious cash. I am not a huge Elvis fan but still a fan. Husband and I bought the house tour with the audio iPad guide.
It was an exceptionally informative tour. Seeking the house and memorabilia was really neat. I thought the shag carpet was just the craziest thing ever! So 70's! Overall the trip was neat and I am glad to say I have seen where the famous peanut butter banana sandwiches were prepared!
Tour was very cool. Seeing Elvis's taste and life up close. Wish we could see the second level. Not sure the mini tablets really help the tour I think it backs up and causes delays. Very thankful that so many of his original items were on display. You know how some tours are just touristy and uninspired?
I'm more of an off-the-beaten-path traveler, but there are some things that I can't miss. Graceland is one of those things. I expected it to be good- not bad, not great. I was impressed by how well this estate and museum were done to pay tribute to Elvis. The relics, the rooms, the land- everything had this incredible feeling of authenticity. It's been meticulously preserved, and the information just adds to the existing appeal! Almost did not go due to the price and would have felt super ripped off if we had chosen just the mansion.
The entire upstairs is off limits because it is the "family's private quarters" as if they still live there. The museums were pretty well done. Really outrageous when you compare this to other museum prices. Unless you really love Elvis, save your money.
Graceland was amazing. Not just because it gives you a view into the life of the great entertainer but because it is literally a snapshot of life in the 70s. If you were a rich performer lol but still. When you drive to Graceland realize the mansion and the museums are across the street from each other.
You will park next to the museums then take a shuttle over to the home. I started by parking on Elvis Presley Boulevard and walking into the mansion to do some early morning meditating at the Meditation Garden. This is where Elvis and the Presleys are resting in eternal slumber. It's a beautiful area. I signed the fence. I opted for the Elvis Experience which contained the mansion and all of the museums.
This time of year is a bit rainy so it wasn't crowded and I easily picked up my pass and headed over to the starting place. Watched an interesting short Elvis video then we were off to the bus to tour Graceland. Graceland is beautiful, you are given an ipad and headset with which to tour. The tour is narrated by John Stamos and he does a nice job.Jul 25, · Memphis Tennessee:Elvis Presley. On RCA Records in / INTRO: G Em F Em..G Em F Em (x2) / #1.
